Medical tests

    Procedures used to assess the condition of a patient. They range from noninvasive, such as listening to a heartbeat, to invasive, such as a spinal tap.

Condition
The term "condition" has a number of biomedical meanings including the following: 1.An unhealthy state, such as in "this is a progressive condition." 2.A state of fitness, such as "getting into condition." 3.Something that is essential to the occurrence of something else; essentially a "precondition." 4.As a verb: to cause a change in something so that a response that was previously associated with a certain stimulus becomes associated with another stimulus; to condition a person, as in behavioral conditioning.

Noninvasive
Nonpenetrating. Noninvasive tests or procedures do not penetrate the body and are usually considered low-risk and painless.

Invasive
Medical tests that involve gaining entry into the body via a needle, tube, or hand.

Medial
Anatomical term meaning on the inside (as opposed to lateral). Not to be confused with median (nerve) that is compressed in carpal tunnel syndrome.

It is usually necessary to prove that deviation by the testimony of expert witnesses in the same field of practice in which the health care worker was engaged at the time of the incident.

Medical malpractice attorney
An attorney who specializes in cases of alleged medical malpractice, either to defend the doctor or to represent the plaintiff.

Medical malpractice lawsuit
A lawsuit by which the plaintiff sues a medical doctor or other medical professional/s claiming that he or she has been a victim of medical negligence or medical malpractice.

Medical malpractice lawyer
A lawyer who specializes in cases of alleged medical malpractice, either to defend the doctor or to represent the plaintiff.

Medical negligence
When a physician or other medical staff member does not treat a patient with the proper amount of quality of care, resulting in serious injury or death, they have committed medical negligence.

Medical oncologist
A physician trained in diagnosing and treating tumors and cancer with chemotherapeutic or immunologic agents.

The study and treatment of cancers with chemicals, biological products or immunotherapy.
