Ischaemic stroke
Ischaemic stroke A stroke caused by a cerebral infarct, classified by arterial distribution: total anterior circulation infarct (TACI), partial anterior circulation infarct (PACI), posterior circulation infarct (POCI) and lacunar infarct (LACI).

Stroke A stroke, or a Cerebrovascular Accident, occurs when blood vessels that deliver oxygen to the brain, either rupture or become clogged, causing brain/nerve cells to die. Results are usually devastating as nerve/brain cells are not replaced. Usually characterized by a slurring of words, weakness on one side of the body, and a drooping facial expression on one side of the face.
Cerebral Referring to the cerebrum.
Infarct A localized area of ischemic necrosis produced by the occlusion of the blood vessels - either arterial supply or venous drainage.
Anterior The front, as opposed to the posterior. The anterior surface of the heart is toward the breast bone (the sternum).
Circulation The flow of blood through the body. Includes the heart, arteries, veins and capillaries.
Posterior At or toward the back.

Invasive cancer Cancer that has spread beyond the area where it first developed to involve other tissues.
