Homophilia may exist only in ideation and affect or in combination with sexual behavior in some homosexuality.

Homosexual
Characterized by same-sex contact, either as a genital act or as a long-term sexuoerotic status [from Greek, homos, same + sex]. It is analogous to left-handedness in being not pathological in itself, though not conforming to the statistical nor the ideological norm, and not being exempt from other pathology. A homosexual person is able to fall in love with, and become the pairbonded sexuoerotic partner of only a person of the same morphologic sex (homophilic homosexual). Homosexuality is not a paraphilia but a gender transposition, variable in extent and degree. Paraphilias may occur in association with either homosexual or heterosexual pairing.

HLA antigens
Human Leukocyte Antigens. (Histocompatibility antigens.) Detected by blood testing. An individual inherits a combination of HLA antigens from his or her parents. They are related to the working of the immune system. For instance, organ donors and recipients must have compatible HLA antigens, otherwise the transplanted organ is recognised as 'foreign'. Certain HLA antigens confer susceptibility to certain diseases and this explains the heritability of some diseases.
HLA B27
The histocompatibility antigen which is strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis and other seronegative spondylarthritides. It occurs in 10% of the population and is detected using a blood test.

HLA antigen associated with rheumatoid arthritis. The association is not as strong as in the case of HLA B27 and ankylosing spondylitis.
