Henoch-Schoenlein purpura
Henoch-Schoenlein purpura Anaphylactoid purpura. A form of allergic vasculitis. The features are arthritis, rash, gastrointestinal involvement and nephritis. Commoner in children.

Purpura A hemorraghic disease characterized by extravasation of blood into the tissues producing spontaneous ecchymoses and petechiae.
Vasculitis Inflammation throughout the body of the blood vessels.
Arthritis Inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and stiffness, and resulting from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances, or other causes. They are related to the working of the immune system. For instance, organ donors and recipients must have compatible HLA antigens, otherwise the transplanted organ is recognised as 'foreign'. Certain HLA antigens confer susceptibility to certain diseases and this explains the heritability of some diseases.
HLA B27 The histocompatibility antigen which is strongly associated with ankylosing spondylitis and other seronegative spondylarthritides. It occurs in 10% of the population and is detected using a blood test.
HLA DR4 HLA antigen associated with rheumatoid arthritis. The association is not as strong as in the case of HLA B27 and ankylosing spondylitis.
Hoffa's disease Knee fad-pad syndrome. Pain and swelling underneath the patellar tendon.
