Ambiguous genitalia
A birth defect of the sex organs in which, from their embryonically undifferentiated state, they have failed to become fully differentiated as either male or female, but are unfinished. At birth the baby's sex cannot be declared on the basis of visual inspection. Diagnostically, the term is hermaphroditism or intersexuality. Embryologically, it is not possible to develop a complete penis and scrotum together with a complete vagina and vulva.
Ambisexuality
Having characteristics shared by both sexes [from Greek, ambi, both + sex]--in human beings, for example, nipples; pubic hair; birth-defective genitalia that look hermaphroditically ambiguous or intersexed; or mating behavior shared by both sexes.

Amastia
A rare condition wherein the normal growth of the breast or nipple does not occur. Unilateral amastia (just on one side) is often associated with absence of the pectoral muscles. Bilateral amastia (with absence of both breasts) is associated in 40% of cases with multiple congenital anomalies (birth defects) involving other parts of the body as well.
Amathophobia
An abnormal and persistent fear of dust. Sufferers experience anxiety even though they realize dust poses no threat.
Amaurosis fugax
"A symptom described as a shade coming down over the eye. A partial or complete loss of sight that is temporary.
Amazia
A condition wherein the breast tissue is absent, but the nipple is present. Amazia typically is a result of radiation or surgery. In amazia, the breast tissue (or what tissue was scheduled to develop into a breast at adolescence) was damaged or removed. Amazia should be distinguished from amastia, which is a significantly rarer condition wherein the breast and nipple were never present in the first place. Unfortunately, amazia and amastia are often not distinguished from one another but are erroneously seen as synonymous.

Ambulance
"Although you are undoubtedly familiar with the sound of the siren and the sight of the flashing lights of the ambulance, you may not necessarily know that the ambulance began as a walking hospital. The word ""ambulance"" indeed started off as a walking hospital, ""un h“pital ambulant"" in French, meaning literally ""a walking hospital."" The ""h“pital ambulant"" was devised during the campaigns of Napoleon to bring medical aid directly to his troops in the field. The original ""h“pital ambulant"" was a mobile unit designed to carry dressings and drugs to the wounded and evacuate the injured from the line of battle. The British, knowing a good idea when they saw it, came up with their own version of the ""h“pital ambulant."" But they economized by dropping the ""h“pital"" and corrupted ""ambulant"" to ""ambulance."" The French, of course, have for many years railed against the incursions of Anglo-Saxon words into the pure precincts of the French language. Nonetheless, they rejected their own ""h“pital ambulant"" and embraced the English ""ambulance."" So, in France today you can no longer see a hospital walking but ""ambulances"" are very much in evidence. "
