ANUG

    An acronym for Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis, commonly known as trench mouth or Vincent's disease, aggravated by stress and/or smoking.

Acute
1. Of short course. 2. Severe, but of a short duration. Not chronic.

Gingivitis
Stage one of early periodontal disease characterized by inflammation, swollen, reddish gum tissue which may bleed easily when touched or brushed. Untreated, gingivitis can lead to chronic periodontal disease and the stability of your teeth.

Disease
Illness or sickness often characterized by typical patient problems (symptoms) and physical findings (signs). Disruption sequence: The events that occur when a fetus that is developing normally is subjected to a destructive agent such as the rubella (German measles) virus.

Stress
Mental or physical tension that results from physical, emotional, or chemical causes.
